You’ve been counting down the days till your challenge and decide to do a last-minute check of the forecast… its being reported that the heavens are due to open and there is a high chance it’s going to be blowing a hooley.
Before you begin unpacking your bag and feeling deflated, let’s break down some of the avenues we would explore to make sure you are still in for a cracking day on the hill.
First and foremost, your safety is paramount to us. You will not be placed at any risk; however, we will explore every avenue to give you the best chance of experiencing the awesome challenge you have trained so hard for.
The Adventure Element team always make sure we have carefully laid plan Bs, Cs and Zs for every eventuality and far in advance. We have been doing this for a very long time and a considerable part of running events in the UK is ensuring we are geared up whatever the weather.
You may find that we have updated the planned route to take in lower trails and avoid more extreme temperatures up high. We will always clearly communicate this to you: providing GPX files and plenty of markers along the route, as well as our handy team or marshals to help you stay on track. Embrace the change and think of it as part of the wild adventure.
It is understandable to feel a little disappointed if things change however, you won’t be hard done by. We know the trails like the back of our hand. Any updates to the event will be for good reason and the alternative routes will undoubtedly offer more of that rugged natural beauty that we know and love. We stay true to delivering you an incredible experience that whilst it may not be ‘as planned’ or imagined, will provide you with an unforgettable day.
It can be exhausting when you are faced with challenging conditions on top of the challenge itself. That’s why we find any opportunity to provide cover – whether that be a marque at a fuel stop or shelter in a building on route so that you can take cover where needed and get some respite before continuing to the finish line.
Extra provisions will be required! As well as your waterproofs and other key items on the kit list, it’s always worth packing a few extra snacks. It’s even more important to maintain your energy on days when the weather is not as favourable. It is easy to be tempted to simply soldier on to the finish line without a break but that’s no way to truly enjoy an event! Make use of our laden fuel stops with hydration and hearty snacks. Your body and mind will thank you!
Lastly, make sure you take a few snaps as you make your way around the course. Trying conditions will be even more reason for people to get behind you and throw some pennies in your fundraising pot!
A challenge is designed to test you and our challenges are the perfect setting to push yourself out of your comfort zone in a safe space. We can't wait to see you on the trail!
