What do you need to know about Stand-Up Paddle Boarding?

Simply; Stand-up paddle boarding is an outdoor water sports activity where a rider (you!) stands up on a large board and uses a paddle to move through the water. With its roots in surfing, it has recently blown up into the fastest growing part of paddlesport.

Based on Derwentwater, is the 'Jewel in the crown' for Stand Up Paddle Boarding in the Lakes. With its proximity to Keswick, the lake has numerous islands and beautiful bays to explore it is a stunning background for your stand up paddle boarding experience. With part of the lake a designated nature reserve there can be plenty of wild life around, so keep a watchful eye out for Otters, Kingfishers, Ospreys and other Lake Land wildlife as we cruise around the lake.

Your instructor will help select the right paddleboard for you, from our selection of inflatable and rigid boards, along with sizing you up with the correct paddle, then we're off onto the lake. With some basic coaching and top tips, you will soon be getting the balance of the board, and putting the 'stand' into stand up paddleboarding! As we travel across the water, you will be given the opportunity to learn some harder skills, and various SUP board challenges for those who want them - getting wet is possible!
