Safe Delivery

The delivery of safe adventure activities lies with the judgements and experience of our leaders and staff.

Our staff are all experienced and qualified outdoor professionals. Their knowledge and judgement is supported by company policy and documentation. Regular discussions and updates are filtered through the staff to ensure all are operating at the pinnacle of safety.

Risk Management

The Adventure Element Ltd strive to provide genuine adventure experiences which have elements of real risk.

Through a rigorous safety management system, regular review and on-going implementation by operational staff and leaders we put in place control measures to reduce risks to a satisfactory and acceptable level.

All risk assessments are reviewed annually automatically or after any significant change.

Such changes may be brought about by:

  • Environmental change
  • Personnel changes
  • Client group change
  • Any incident that may occur

Our Staff and Leaders

All delivery leaders and staff are highly experienced and qualified.

Staff are recruited to meet the minimum qualification requirements for the activities they will be delivering. Many staff hold higher technical qualifications than is required. This ensures the most professional and safety aware staff possible.

All staff are encouraged to maintain their qualifications and to participate in activities to continually increase their personal ability, knowledge and ability. This Continual Professional Development helps to enhance the delivery of programmes. The process of development and engaging only the best staff assists in the growth of the companies Risk Management systems and has a positive influence on policies.

Safeguarding

Regardless of role, all staff have a duty to keep young people safe and to protect them from sexual, physical and emotional harm. 

We believe in providing a positive, caring, safe environment which promotes the social, physical and moral development of the individual child or vulnerable adult.

Everyone who works with young people understands that the nature of their work and the related responsibilities place them in a position of trust. A detailed document that gives clear advice on appropriate and safe behaviours for everyone employed The Adventure Element Ltd.


External Accreditation

Adventure Activities Licensing Service (AALS) regulate our Adventure Activities in the UK. 

We are licensed by the Adventure Activities Licensing Service, this is part of the HSE. Our A.A.L.S. license number is L8495/R1821.

This licence indicates that The Adventure Element Ltd has been inspected by the licensing service with particular attention being paid to our safety management systems with young people, and has been able to demonstrate compliance with nationally accepted standards of good practice in the delivery of adventure activities to young people, with due regard to the benefits and risks of the activity.

We are licensed for Rock Climbing, Abseiling, Gorge Scrambling, Via Ferrata, Mine Exploration (Honister Mine Only), Hillwalking and Mountaineering, Canoeing and Coracle Paddling activities.

DofE Approved Activity Provider (AAP) 

We have been granted a licence by The Duke of Edinburgh's Award to provide the expedition and residential elements of a participants overall award. 

The licence has been granted on the quality of our programmes meeting the requirements of the DofE award.

We are proud of our licence and offer DofE expeditions at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels and 3 different modes of transport: Foot, Bike and Boats.


Public Liability Insurance

We hold a Public Liability Insurance policy which covers up to £5,000,000 and an Employer’s Liability Policy.

We strongly recommend participants take additional insurance to cover cancellation and curtailment and any personal accident insurance cover for participants.

Breaking Down Barriers: Empowering Women to Participate in Adventure Triathlons

Looking at our Event stats over the years, we were pretty pleased to see the gender split has improved significantly from 30/70 in 2023 to 42/58 in 2024. However, we appreciate there is still more we can do to help break down barriers that may prevent women from attending our events and experiencing incredible adventures. We recognise that there is a huge amount of women out there itching to get on triathlons, hit the trails with their mates and experience the thrills of pushing yourself on an event. Equally, there are many factors that are at play when it comes to signing on the dotted line, getting to the start line... never mind, reaching the finish line! That is why we are pledging to do more than ever to create a welcoming, inclusive environment for all. We want more awesome women at our events absolutely rocking it and creating a positive cycle of inspiring other women to follow suit. Lets explore our journey and how we plan to do this...

Dealing with periods on an event

Event Day is by default a challenge in itself – without the added complications of dealing with your period (aches and pains, hormones, and extra kit to contend with to name a few!). We are here to make the day as stress-free and enjoyable as possible and want every single person to come away from an event feeling elated from their experience... even when on their period! We are delving into elements we have considered to help make the event experience as comfortable as possible whilst on your period - more than simply adding chocolate to the fuel stations (although we appreciate that is a crucial step too!).
